Is It Cruel to Cage Your Dog While You Are at Work or Away?

My friend cages his wife's dog when they both are away at work etc. He also cages it when he is home and she is away. The only time he is out is when she is home. My friend is not an animal person, but his wife is (she begged him for it). He does not like it running around the apartment because he does not want to mess up anything. They have a Bichon Frises. I asked them about it and they said that he likes it in the cage because he feels protected kind of like when he goes into a closed place and sleeps in a corner etc. They also cage him when they are asleep

yes its very cruel. it's just like what they do to cows – they keep them in little cages where they can't move so that their muscles are soft , making tender meat.
i have a Bichon and whenever my entire family's out we just let him have the house. At first when he was a puppy he used to go into my room and chew up some of my things, but after i punished him and cried over the fact that he chewed up my favorite phone.. haha, he stopped.
now it's no problem.
if anything, he pees on the carpet but only when he really needs to because we're gone for a long time.
Bichons will learn, they're pretty smart, especially since they get so attatched to their owners they only want to please you.
stop putting the dog in the cage, try to train him, give him a chance please!

    Hey,

Put in a quick word with your friend.

"IT IS SICK TO CAGE ANIMALS FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME"

    Hope this answers your question.

No offence to your friend or owt thoughh.

My last girlfriend used to complain about being kept in a kennel all day. But she came to enjoy it once I started spiking her water bowl with gin.

I have a friend that also does it. We (you and I) think it is cruel, but the dog is use to it and would want back in it if they took it away. I also think having a dog left in the back yard is cruel, but they adapt.

I had to put my 15 year old dog in a crate the last 2 weeks of his life while I was at work.Believe me it hurt me more than him. He would sneak back in while I was making dinner and get all his "stuff" and hide it in the house. (chew toy, stuffed animals and dog biscuits) Too funny
