How Much Does It Cost to Groom a Bichon Frise?

Like the show cuts that the Bichon Frise's have in dog shows? There all little fully fur balls and so adorable. Do I have to go to a special groomers to get this done? How much will it cost?

I have been specializing in grooming only Bichons for over 20 years.
I have done show trims on my dogs and pet trims on my customers
dogs . Yes, you do have to go to a professional groomer for your dog's
hair cut. I don't know how old your dog is, but if it is a puppy you must
start as soon as possible. It is better for the dog to start at around
14 to 16 weeks, so that they can get used to it, all the noises and
sissors etc. This is a high maintenance breed for grooming and you want your dog to enjoy his grroming not fear it. The cost is around
$50

Show clips are much more expensive & time consuming than just the average pet clip that pet bichons get – VERY difficult for the average owner to maintain. Average pet bichon clip – $40 – $60 for well cared dog.
Most likely $70 – $100+ for a show clip. Don't know of any pet owners who maintains a show clip length on their bichons – only ones that are currently being shown.

Depends on the groomer. You can call several and ask. Show clips take longer and are more involved. On bichons the work is done using scissors instead of clippers. In order to have your dog look as nice as a show dog, it will need to have a proper dense hair coat with good texture. Some pet quality bichons have really soft hair coats which makes scissoring very difficult.

$60-$90 depends on the groomers you go to.

Believe me you don't want to go through the trouble of keeping a Bichon in a show clip. Their hair has to grow out fairly long and be of a certain hair texture, of which the average Bichon is not. Show Bichons are pretty much completely hand scissored, which will cost you a pretty penny. A pet clip is much more practical in the long run and you can still maintain the puffy look without all the hassle.

    Hi there,

My daughter has a 9 month old Bichon.. She has never had him groomed. Does him herself, but I was horrified to see him just yesterday with fur in his eyes, knots everywhere, looking very unkempt.
Would she now have to get him shaved completely then groomed regularly?
He was bought on a “whim” unfortunately, as an adorable puppy and I don’t think she thought out the maintenance of the breed.
