I have a Bichon Frise that has curly hair that sticks closer to his body, not poofy like i see in the pictures. Right now his coat is shorter for the winter, but i plan on growing it out, and id really like to know how to get that typical Bichon look.
I bathe him in a whitening shampoo, what else should i do?
(i meant to say shorter for summer, and grow it out for winter)

The trick is to brush, using a slicker brush, out the dog as you are drying the coat after a bath.. Brush & brush & brush & brush. A Bichon is hard to keep up.

Groomers blowdry the hair, making it straight, then scissor it evenly. As soon as it gets wet it will go back to curly. After you bathe the dog, immediately put it on the table and blow dry him until he is completely dry. You must brush as you blow dry the hair in order to keep it from curling. It’s major work, and once it’s dry, then you scissor it so it is even and shaped into the round head look that makes a Bichon look like a Bichon and not a poodle.

Anyway, I’d recommend a professional groomer. A lot of it depends on the coat of your dog, but there is also a lot of grooming involved as well.
