I Think My Dog May Be in Trouble.?

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

i have a bichon frise female, she is 9 years old, has breast tumors, and is lactating, i am almost sure she isnt pregnant could this be a false pregnancy? and if she really is pregnant should i terminatew the puppies because of her condition. she is a rescued dog i received her at three she was in a terrible accident where her previous owner tried to shoot her because she wouldnt eat.[he is imprisoned.]
i will be taking her to the vet tomorrow i just was wondering on opinions.

first, thanks for adopting this poor girl. Next, if she dose not look prego, then i’d say it has something to do with her med condition. females don’t lactate until right before the pups are born. i wish you both the best.

Dog Help a.s.a.p.?!?

Monday, November 17th, 2008

My parents and I adopted a half Bichon Frise half Poodle from a rescue center last Sunday and since we got him all he does is hide under my bed and under my dresser, also when he walks, he has his tail between his legs. We adopted another dog last Sunday too from the same rescue center and he has adjusted without any problems. My parents and I suspect the dog who hides under my bed was abused. I have given the dog I suspect who was abused lots of attention, and taken him everywhere I go in the house. If someone has had an abused dog how did you get him to become more sociable and not so scared by other dogs and people??
Thank you!!
I hope this works. =)

yes, hes probably been abused. you just need to take time, and show him that you will love him. but whatever you do, dont hit him. just scold him. you may also want to play fetch with him, even if he doesnt know how. lol!

My Dogs Are Getting Tear Stains?

Friday, November 14th, 2008

I have 2 dogs, a Bichon Frise and a Bichon mix.

My Bichon Frise always had small tear stains since I adopted her from a rescue, but not horribly bad.

My Bichon mix never did.

recently they did have a change in their diet… my one went from Chicken and rice (which the vet recommended since he had bad allergies) and my other went from Innova Chicken small bites to Innova EVO for dogs with skin allergies. A few weeks ago we started them on Red Meat EVO… which has Turkey and Buffalo as the main ingredient.

Both love it and do really well on it, but I notice both are starting to get bad tear stains no matter how often I clean them.

Is it because the food has a higher concentration of red meat?
Actually, EVO IS made for allergies.

EVO is more meat based and has less grains which is exactly what 88% of dogs with food related skin allergies are allergic to… the grains.

it is vet and pet nutritionist recommended

Take a look at this site.. it might help you understand it better..

Ohhhh… I also found this, some ways to help get rid of it! (I know there is something you can get from the vet, my brother used it on one of his dogs, but I don't know what the name of it is off the top of my head.. but here were some frugal suggestions!)

Give the dog a teaspoon of plain yogurt once a week it will fight the yeast that is causing the red tear stains to begin with. It will take a few weeks to notice but it will cut down on the amount. In the mean time clean the eyes with baby wipes cut into smaller sections to save on the cost.
