since i was little i have always had dogs. i have had one mutt and four pedigrees
(Airedale, bichon frise and boxer and greyhound)
now i hae the greyhound and a mutt
the greyhound is very strange poor thing is a rescue dog. but since i got my mutt a staffy, pit bull dalmation mix i have realised how stupid the pedigrees act!
my buster the mutt is very very clever! he does tricks such as play dead roll over sit plays hide and seek and chases his tail on command and many many more
he also sits at his bowl at 4 which is his dinner time!
he is the best dog i have ever had, very sweet.
however the pedigrees were not as loving (not that they werent but compared to buster not very loving) not as clever and not as easy to train
is this the case with anyone else???
has anyone else got a clever mutt???
what is the smartest pedigree???
Really smart but they don't make the best choices. LOL!
I have a
*Affenpisncher-kinda smart
*Pit Bull/Lab x-Dosen't catch on easly
*Rottie/Husky/Lab x-INTELLENGENT Super SMART!!
*Lab-He's OK.
I recommend a Border Colie. They are very smart and I'm getting one. I would never recommend a dog that I don't think's smart!!!
Good Luck

border collies are VERY smart. But full of energy, so only get one if you have time for one.

Poodles are very intelligent dogs, believe it or not…

It depends on what you mean by "smart"
People deem a dogs intelligence generally to be one of a few categories:
~The level ability to learn.
~Willingness to comply/obedience.
~Ability to problem solve or have independent thought.
My border collie is probably the smartest dog I know, in all 3 of the categories.
Most people deem beagles to be a "stupid" breed, but Oz breaks all the stereotypes because I spent the time to work with him. Even all 3 categories for him are not a problem. A little less that the border collie of course, but he is still very intelligent.
It depends on how the dog was bred, brought up and what breeds are involved (in the case of a mix).
I have always challenged both of my dogs, spent endless hours bonding with them, and learning how to train them.
Any dog has the capability to be intelligent by those standards, it's all in a matter of upbringing.
According to some research Border Collies are deemed the most intelligent breed, with Standard (only the standard) Poodles in a close second.

I also like intellegent dogs. I have had extremely smart dogs of both pedigree, and mutt.
There is a difference in trainablility and intelligence. For example, huskies are incredibly intelligent, but in general use their intelligence to figure out how to do what they want and could care less what you want unless you can figure out their motivation.
Sighthounds, like your greyhound are not known for their trainablility, but this does not mean that they are not smart.
The breeds with the most trainability are the ones that were developed to work with people, like the herding, sporting and even a lot of the toy breeds. Some of the non sporting breeds are very trainable also.
Border collies are considered the “smartest, most trainable” but they are extremely hyper and need a lot of work.
Poodles have always been known for their smarts also.
