When I Give My Bichon Frise Puppy Treats She Hides Them?

is this normal?

Oh yea, like squirrels she saving them for later! I used to find dog treats hidden under my pillow all the time. Kinda like burying the bone in the backyard. Dogs are all still animals (no matter how cute and fluffy they be) and still run on their animal instincts of foraging and stockpiling food for a later time. She might do this with toys too. But yeah perfectly normal

Lol, yeah, one of our Shih Tzu’s hides them underneath the throw pillows on the couch. Then the other one goes and takes them!

Yup. Whenever I give my dog treats (ie: A bone, something bigger he can gnaw on ) he takes it out back and buries it under the deck or in the garden, then puts a toy on top of the spot. So, now I have random bits of squeaky burger laying about in the yard, which are going to get moved since snow and winter is coming…Can’t keep him inside though – he has a doggy door and is sneaky when he goes out to bury his treasure.

Yes, of course this is normal. She is just saving them for later or she thinks its her treasure, therefore she wants to keep it for a while and save it for the right moment!

Remember all dogs have their instinct to bury their bones, to save it for later or and its because its their little treasure.

Hope this helps, you do not have to worry about this.

My Shiatsu has a private stash of them. We laugh when we are watching a movie and she pulls them all out- sometimes she lays them out and decided on what she wants- and then put the rest back. Like little kids I tell you!

I hate to be a party pooper as bichons are soooo cute but, this is a dominance issue. My dog did the same with toys and I thought he was being so cute ‘tidying’ his toys away! He happened to display this behaviour whilst a dog trainer was visiting my home work with my puppy and the trainer pointed out he was trying to assert a higher position in the pack by putting things where he wanted. if you want to change this behaviour when she hides the treats take them back and let her only eat them on your terms and i’m assuming your using these treats as a reward for a good behaviour rather than just to treat her for being cute lol so as she has performed on command give her the treat.
