i need to give away my dog, what should i do?who do i give him to or where?

i really love my dog, but my dad says we have to give him away
hes such a wonderful dog,hes playful, sweet, and very smart.I don't want to give him to a shelter =/ i'm scared because i want him to have a nice home not to be locked up in a cell. He is still a puppy only about 9 months old.He is a bichon frise, please someone help i don't know who to give him to,or where. I just want my dog to be happy and have a good home. ='(
here is a picture of him sleeping
http://de.tinypic.com/view.php?pic=oh368y&s=4
the reason why my dad doesn't want him is because he says we don't have the time anymore to take care of him and we are alittle tight with money right now and we could use the money that we waste on buying food and other things for our dog also he is really hyper,we don't have time to play with him all the time like we did before

Depending on where you live, you can put an add in the local paper saying "Bichon Frise for free". You should hopefully get some good candidates, but ask them to bring reccomendations from other people they know stating that they are a good owner.

Probably the most popular choice is to take him to a shelter, lots of amazing, sweet and caring people go here to adopt pets, so he may just find a good home in the pound (no kill obviously) as he would from anywhere else.

Probably your best option would be to contact some local shelters/rescue groups to see if you could surrender him to them. They'll take care of him and find him a new home for him.

He's so cute!! Couldn't you ask around at your school, people you know and like and trust to take good care of him? You'd be surprised at how many people are willing to take a dog if the alternative is a shelter. I'm sure you'll find a good and loving home for your pet.

Try putting an ad in your local paper. Screen the people who call.

Another thing you might look into is to see if there is a FreeCycle organization in your area. Basically, it is a Yahoo group that is a place for people to list items they are giving away (things have to be free). Check Yahoo groups for your area and search for FreeCycle.

Just don't be afraid to ask people questions about where and how your pet will be kept… do they have a yard? kids? will they walk him? why do they want a dog? do they have other dogs? etc. Anything you can think of to ask that will help you feel better in your heart about them as a home for your pet.

Look up local Bichon and Small Dog rescues in your area. All non-shelter rescue groups are no kill and they will find the best home for your dog.

That's a hard situation to deal with. Make sure it's a no kill shelter. Some shelters on give 10 days to get adopted. if not there put to sleep! Try putting an ad in the newspaper. or go online and find a rescue group!!!!

Why do you have to give him away?????

If I were you I either

1. wouldnt sell him
2. would sell him to a really good friend (so you can still see him)

Sorry can't be much help, but I think you should keep him

You can give your animals away on it. You just can't sell them on it. Get to know the potential owners before giving him away.

I would first try any friends or family you can think of to see if they are in the market for a puppy.

If not,

I would contact a breed rescue, or a no-kill shelter. Be prepared to give a LARGE donation in order for them to even take the dog. Shelters and rescues are already overcrowded, and a lot (in my area) won't even accept surrenders with out a fee.

I would take him if in the UK lol

cant you take him back to the breeder

why do you have to get rid of him,he just a baby so takes time for him to train etc

advertise him on a pet site get him neutered so hes not used as a breeding machine

hope you can persuade your dad to let you keep him

Good luck

aw i'm sorry :|

try taking him to some place like petsmart.
i heard they keep them until their adopted and they won't put them to sleep if they don't find a home for them.
they also get played with by the workers there.

but i would ask just to be positive that your dog would have a good home.
or you could ask a friend or family member to take him and then you could also visit.

If your dad has put his foot down, I would definetly put an ad in the newspaper, because dogs who are bought and paid for tend to be treated much better than dogs who are just given away.

Or look for someone close in your family/friend circle that may be willing to take him!!

If you got him from a breeder, see if the breeder is willing to take him back, most breeders(reputable ones) are willing to take a dog back if your not able to take care of it

I'd really avoid giving him to anyone at your school. You never know how he will be treated.

Contact a regional or national Bichon rescue and they should take him. I understand where you're coming from. My friend had to get rid of his Jack Russel terrier because he was moving so I took her. She was just too much to handle. We contacted a JRT rescue and they took her. Now she lives on a farm with another JRT and they can run and play. They even sent us pictures and she just looked so happy. Rescues do thorough background checks on potential owners so you can relax knowing he's going to a great home.

Also avoid posting him on craigslist or a newspaper saying "free to good home". It's a sad truth, but animal testing labs contact these ads and use the dogs for testing.

You don't say where you got him but if you did get him from a breeder, PLEASE take him back to that breeder. That is one of the stipulations of the contract when you got that puppy…. that if you can't keep it, it MUST go back to the breeder… or if it was a good breeder it should have been anyway.

If you didn't get it from a breeder, hon, I'm sorry to say, everybody here had their heart in the right place and gave you good info BUT the shelters and rescues are so overwhelmed right now they may not be able to help you. So many people are giving puppies away lately because they can't afford their bills or homes or other things and the shelters are having a hard time keeping up and there's a good chance, as much as they may want to help you, they simply may not be able to. Are there any family members you know of that may be able to take him or neighbors…. also that way you'd maybe be able to see him and help take care of him? If not, you can try the shelters and rescues and Humane Society in the area and hopefully, yours are doing better than other areas but most I know just simply can't take in any more animals anymore.

Also, maybe ask your vet. Sometimes, they know of someone who just lost an animal and may be looking for a new one and they already know a little about the background and what kind of medical care these people keep with their animals. Good luck hon. I hope everything works out for you.

Contact your local no-kill rescues, or contact Small Paws Rescue:

http://www.smallpawsrescue.org/

They specialize in Bichon Frise rescue, and may be able to take the dog, or get you in touch with someone who can. Often giving the dog to a rescue (with a large donation, if at all possible) is a better option than trying to find a home for the dog yourself. They have the experience needed to find a good, permanent home for the dog, and will make sure it is spayed or neutered first.

well, if you have a friend that can take care of it for a while, until you get things straight, like you said, also you should give it to a local shelter. the shelter near me, whenever they get a new puppy, they post it online, and PILES of people come, (well, not really, but you get the point) so its kinda hard to get a puppy. dont give it to a breeder, it can be a puppy mill!!! dun, dun dun! (nah, just kiddin) but if you do give it away, make sure you give it to a good place, but i hope you dont give it away, its so cute!
