BYB no i dont 'tell off' my baby for having an accident im asking for advice on my dog so if nothing constructive to say dont bother
Bichons are notoriously difficult to housetrain. It's not impossible, you just need to be extra vigilant. If he's not neutered, get it done immediately. He also should be checked over by the vet-anytime an adult dog starts eliminating inappropriately, the first course of action is to rule out medical issues (UTI, kidney stones, urine crystals, etc).
Should the vet give him a clean bill of health, go right back to the start and treat him as if he were a puppy again. This means crating when you are not able to watch him, keeping him on a tether attached to you the rest of the time. The tether will not allow him to sneak away to pee or mark (whichever the case may be) and will direct your attention to him when he starts looking for a spot to go. You may want to consider a "belly band" for him during this training process (it's like a dog-diaper that will prevent him from peeing on your walls or furniture).
Be sure to ask your vet for help with the process. There is evidence that short-term use of fluoxetine can hinder the marking instinct. Your vet will be able to guide you in medicinal remedies.
By the way, "telling him off" is the right thing to do IF you catch him in the act of marking the sofa. If you don't actually scold him during or within a few seconds of the act, don't bother. You will only confuse the dog. You can't take a dog back to the spot and start scolding-ONLY scold if you catch him doing it, tell him no, and pick him up and take him outdoors, then try to get him to finish up outdoors (works for urination more than for marking).

I've researed and many people said there very good at it and as many people work full time nowadays they have no choice.
and its better than them dying on streets.
BTW i dont have one yet so an ideal age to get one would be good too.
Please do not take offense to this ( I know you did not mean die literally), but I do not know of many Bichon Frise's that would be left on the street to die. They are gorgeous dogs, and if left outside alone, I am sure someone would pick him or her up in a moment. As far as leaving a Bischon Frise alone during the day, you can up to 5 hours, making sure you walk him once in the morning and at night. As long as you give the doggie lots of love when you are home, the 5 hours would be okay. You could put down puppy pads if you need to leave him alone for about 7 or 8. Please do not put in a kennel all day, that is cruel and you sound like a nice person. I know you would not do that. You are so lucky to have such a cute dog!! Wow.

I just adopted 2 dogs at the shelter and they are obese. I am wondering what and how much I should be feeding them? Home cooked food? Raw Food? Canned? Kibble? How many times a day? Any tips would be great! They are Bichon Frise mix, ages 7 & 9.
Any quality less active/senior formula would be fine. Just be warned that little white dogs sometimes have allergies to certain ingredients – mine are allergic to corn and I have to feed them a lamb and rice formula. I also supplement with a fish oil capsule to keep their skin healthy – they tend to itch a lot. You’ll know that they have allergies after 2 weeks they will start to kick their paws and/or chew the fur on their hind legs. Be careful – most treats also contain corn!
Be sure to walk them several times a day. They need exercise to slim down – start with a walk around the block 3 times a day and work up to 20-30 minutes three times a day or if this isn’t possible then work up to an hour once a day. It’ll help you work off those Oreos you might have snacked on around 3:00 today too!
I also only feed twice a day. I set their bowls down for 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes in the evening. If they mess around and don’t eat – they’ll be hungry at the next feeding time. It also helps me to know when they’re going to poop. If you are feeding a quality food they should be pooping twice a day – solid poops too (easy to pick up).
Good luck and thanks for adopting rather than buying a puppy from a petstore.
