I Was Wondering if My Bichon Frise Will Get Along With a Standard Poodle?

My family and I are moving out into the country. Right now we have a bichon frise, and there are coyotes and other animals where we will be moving. We are looking for a large dog"like a standard poodle because ", that will protect our bichon frise dog who is going to be 4 soon. He is very small and thinks he's so tough, so I'm worried he might get jealous if we get a new dog. We are thinking about a Standard poodle because my mom is allergic to dogs, and standard poodles are hypoallergenic dogs. If you know any other dogs that are big and hypoallergenic, please leave me a comment!

Bichon Frise was develouped to be an ideah in house pet dog. Male will get along better than a female. If both males are nutered there should be no problems. Introduce and give time to both equaly. A standard poodle is a good choice for the alergy problem. They are known as the most trainable breed. quite intelegent and willing. The dogs will love haveing the company.

It's not the breed of dog to worry about, it's the personality. With the right training they can all get along just fine. I'd love to have a standard poodle. not sure if they are much of a defense against coyotes, but it might be. I think as far as allergies go, that a standard poodle is one of the best bets. But it's all in the training! For BOTH dogs.

Hello..there are some hybreds that are suppose to be more hypoallergenic..like labordoodles, etc..just fair warning..with coyotes, their PLOY is to use a another coyote to lure the dogs away & out, then the pack attacks them..best way to have anything in that situation is to have your pets safely kenneled with a top, ceiling …or something in coyote country especially tops are needed..contrary to popular belief most dogs do not need large spaces nor to roam acres without someone there..you're just asking for trouble to do so no matter what kind of dog you have – big or small …exercise & playing is best, never just running around loose !!! As for them getting along it's hard to say..only you know your dog & how well it gets along with other dogs…& ya just can't tell till you try …our JRT ONLY gets along with our lab, he thinks little dogs are something to chase & kill !! Take Care :)

Of course it all depends on each dog's temperment, but They should be great together!!! Sadly- my Bichon passed away, but I still have my poodle. They spent many years together and were the best of friends. I also had my Bichon first, and they had to establish their "pecking" order, but became very close. He was almost as devastated as i was when our beloved Bichon passed on. Please, please, Please– make sure you have a fenced yard for them. Not only will it deter some of the wild animals, but you run the risk of losing your dogs, not only throught their curiosity- but may very easily become lost and disoriented in a new area.
