Thursday, January 19th, 2012

I’ve begged my mom for a dog for like my whole life and she said i could get one if a saved up money for it and i could pay for it by myself. I’ve decided on a bichon frise. I want to know how much grooming will cost and when i should have it groomed. Also what are some inexpensive places to go to have it groomed.

I have my bichon frise groomed every 6-8 weeks

Would a Bichon Frise Get on With a Yorkshire Terrier?

Saturday, January 7th, 2012

the bichon frise is two and really lovely. he gets on well with the cats.
would a yorkshire terrier fit in and how would it be introduced?

No reason why they shouldn`t get on if both dogs are amiable and are introduced properly.
Introduce both dogs on neutral ground and if they seem friendly to one another, take them on a short walk together a couple of times. Walk them back to your house and see how they get on indoors. If all goes well then Bingo!
if they are opposite genders and intact get the female spayed.

If you intend getting a Y/T puppy. Get a crate for the puppy and let the bichon see him and sniff him for a while through the mesh of the crate.
Supervise them together until you are certain they have bonded.

The Invisible Dog Fence Has Many Visible Effects

Saturday, November 19th, 2011

Usually a dog fence means a physical structure surrounding the yard where our dog is contained in. With the advances in technology, however, we think of dog fences in the sense of invisible fences with no visible lines of demarcation set in wood, stone and metal. Nevertheless, they are quite benefic for many dog owners.

The electronic dog fences are invisible, but their effects and benefits and quite real. Firstly, the dog owner will spend no more time, effort and money to build and maintain a physical fence. Electronic dog fences can be easily set up since you only need to install the transmitter in a recommended location, set the area designated as the safe place and then put the collar around the dog’s neck.

All you have to do is turn the system on. Within just a few minutes your electronic Dog Fence is fully functional.

As you don’t more need to build any physical barrier around the place you want your dog to be safe in, you will no more need to affect its aesthetics. Your dog is curious and it can produce accidents, but you have now available the electronic dog fence you can set specifically to protect any special place in your house or some showcase containing delicate or valuable items.

The invisible dog fences are the perfect choice for all those people who live in neighborhoods where local low or regulations do not allow the construction of physical fences. Police officers will want easy access to your house in case trouble does happen but you still have the benefit of a fence to protect your dog, in a manner of speaking.

Third, you have many choices in these electronic dog fences. Dog owners will choose electronic dog fence type accordingly to their needs, preferences and budget.

The wires of the wired systems of dog fences have two main roles: to detect when the dog approaches the limits of the containment area and to trigger the collar worn by the dog to emit the beep and then the electric shock.

There are also wireless systems that use sensors to detect the approach of the dog to the borders of the safe area and a central unit to transmit the triggering radio signal for the delivering of the set aversive stimuli.

GPS-based systems are becoming popular since these allow for faster and easier installation of the fence since the unit can be placed the designated area sans the physical effort required to install the wires or the central unit

Fourthly, your dog will be no more exposed to various risks. This is because your dog will soon learn that the avoidance of a certain area will mean averting the onset of the unpleasant sensations that comes with the loud beep and the electric shock that will soon follow if he so much as continues with his course of action.

You’ll have less to worry about its health. As your dog will no more be able to bite people, you will get rid of hospital expenses or legal claims.

Dog owners don’t need to be troubled by the fact their dogs will receive electric shocks from the collar their dogs has to wear as part of the invisible Dog Fence. These collars cannot deliver more than mild electric shocks because they are powered only by two small penlight batteries, and while the dog owner tries the collar on his own, he can make any adjustment he considers necessary.

In a few minutes, your Dog Fence will be ready to work. Your dog will be no more exposed to various risks. Don’t worry about the shocks given by the Dog Fence.

The Training Collar Solves Your Bark Problem

Training Collar

If no training method has any success with your dog, this can drive you crazy. Not all pet owners are able to train their dogs themselves, because they either lack the talent or they have to deal with a difficult pet. Whichever the reason might be, you must not lose hope. We can’t all be dog whisperers and every dog owner has to start somewhere. Fortunately, new methods of dog training have been developed, and they don’t use the owner’s skill at all. Such a device is best known as a Training Collar.

You can attach this device like it was a normal collar. Even so, it is different from the common dog collar, as it has a special mechanism attached. With this remote, you can control the barking of your dog. By pressing this button, you will send a signal to your dog’s collar that will make the collar emit a warning beep telling the dog that it is performing in the wrong behavior. The second function is a shock button that gives your canine companion a little shock whenever it is pressed. The principle ths device uses is called negative reinforcement.

Most people believe the collar is an inhumane object to use when training a dog but it is no different from using a spray bottle or a swift smack on the nose. The truth is far from this; the device is totally harmless. It merely sends shocks that annoy your dog; also, you are the one who controls all shocks and warning signals. When you get used to using the Training Collar, you will come to the conclusion that there’s no need to use it for long, since your dog will learn how to behave in no time. Start out with two warning beeps before you press the shock button and your dog will learn very quickly to behave at the sound of the beep. You can give your dog a reward if it learns fast.

Shortly you will manage to train your dog and the dog training collar will not be needed anymore. Once the training finished, you won’t have further problems with dog barking. This training device is a much better choice than simply sending your dog away.

These devices have been around for some time; many dog owners successfully used them in dog training. The shocks don’t hurt your dog a bit; they simply startle your dog. Try it out on yourself if you don’t believe it. Many pet owners managed to train their dogs successfully using this device. It’s time that you got one too!

The Training Collar isn’t a new device; it has been used by many pet owners. It does not hurt your dog, but rather annoys it. Learn more about how the Training Collar functions.

Is It Bad to Neuter a 3 Month Old Bichon Frise?

Saturday, October 15th, 2011

I just got a a 3 month old Bichon frise puppy and the vet put a lot of pressure on me to neuter him so I had her do it but now I am reading that it is really bad to neuter a puppy this early. Has anyone had any experience with neutering a small breed puppy this early? Thank you.

early spay/neutering is becoming more popular … many shelters are fixing puppies/kittens before being adopted out … i was at the vet yesterday getting my puppy his second set of shots and my vet told me anytime between now and 6 months is good to get my pup neutered … 6 months used to the the standard but early neutering has been found to to be perfectly acceptable … a vet who pressures you into doing something to your dog you do not want to or end up regretting, means you should find a better vet … i told my vet i wanted to wait till my puppy was 6 months old and he was fine with that … he told me as long as a dog is over 2 pounds, over 8 weeks, neutering could be done …

The Best Rubber Dog Toy

Friday, September 23rd, 2011

All the dogs chew from time to time, this is a habit of them, and this habit can become excessive in their teething period or when they get bored. Once you have this in mind, it is important to try to figure out how it is that you can help your dog to stop chewing valuable things in the house in addition to its own house. The solution for this is at your hand, you just need to buy it a rubber dog toy and your dog will have something better to chew than your things. These things are not to eat but to be chewed, and basically they are designed and manufactured to resist a long time to a chewing dog. Nevertheless, in order to avoid any kind of mishap that could occur when your dog chews the toy, it is important to make sure you are buying the best toy for it.

The first thing that you should consider is the material used to manufacture the toy. There are some rubber materials that are very light and they can easily tear when chewed by the dog. The duration of a chewing toy will also depend on the kind of dog you have and its chewing habits. There are some dogs that chew more than others, which make it important to ensure that you settle for the best rubber material that suits your dog perfectly. A toy that can be broken or tear apart when the dog chews it is dangerous, as it could swallow a part and choke with it or block its intestines.

A second aspect to consider when buying a rubber dog toy is the ability of the rubber material to resist when the toy is chewed by the dog. Your dog will be very pleased to chew a lot of hours to its rubber toy, and in the mean time it will also exercise the muscles of its neck, jaws and mouth. It is also possible to add some treats in these toys to ensure that the dog is both active and it is also enjoying itself. This way you will provide your dog with a physical occupation and also with a mental challenge, because your dog will need to find a method of getting the treats out of the toy in order to eat them.

You also need to choose a material that won’t rip, puncture, crack or even shred when your dog get nervous and chews the toy with excessive aggressiveness. The toy should have no detachable parts which could be swallowed by the dog, leading to suffocation or other complications that could be really dangerous for your pet.

Buy more than one rubber dog toy and interchange them from time to time. You can find more toy models that will please your dog. It is also important to ensure that the dog is challenged in a way and in order to do this you need to take another different type of toy and stuff it with different treats from the first one and put them together to see the one that it will go for. With the numerous types of the rubber dog toy available in the market, nothing should worry you when it comes to selecting the most suitable one if you have the right tips.

Give you dog a rubber dog toy to chew. Increase the pleasure of your dog with treats inserted into the toy. Choose the most suitable rubber dog toy for your pet.

Is Having a Bichon Frise a Good Choose for a First Time Dog Owner?

Wednesday, August 17th, 2011

What’s are the pros and cons about a bichon frise?

yes, I love this breed.

pros:

-one of three breeds that is totally hypoallergenic.
-they do not shed at all hardly
-they do not smell like some breeds do, they are virtually odorless other than there breath, level or dirtiness, and enviroment.
-very happy go lucky breed, usually
-very social animals, usually, they love other dogs/people/children
-cute as a button

cons:
-you have to get them groomed regularly, like every 6 weeks, or there hair will matt up big time
-you have to keep their hair brushed, and it’s very coarse and nappy, hard to brush sometimes, but start when it’s a puppy, and it should learn to tolerate
-well known "puppy mill" breed, make sure you do some serious research of who you buy it from. Puppy mill puppies are usually inbred, have many health problems, and can even die from deplorable conditions it was living in before you took it home.
-they can sometimes be persnickety around other dogs or people as they reach seniority, though rare.
-they sometimes hate being groomed, and finding the right groomer can be difficult if he turns into a biter.
